Performing arts, NO?

Sometimes I would wonder whether I'm in the wrong profession. Don't get me wronged when I said this. Teaching is by far the most satisfying job that I ever enjoyed doing. Doing other things other than teaching is what I dread. Not that I hate those 'things' but I have to admit that I clearly do not like being pushed around and forced like a slave to do something that I don't like.

I remember being forced by my primary school teacher to sing all the chinese oldies in preparation for the inter school singing competition. Yes, I won almost all the competition. I'm not trying to be vain here but that was the truth- until I hit puberty and my voice cracked like a giant rock hitting the earth. If only I got a vocal trainer, I might have ended up in the showbiz(yer, sachak sa! muka ko diat, kata geng aku)

This few weeks, I've been bombarded with the different tasks that I need to carry out. Who would have thought I would be the group leader for PERFORMANCE department for the school annual excellence day. So, I had to come up with as many and different performances to fill the slots of prize giving. Believe me, it's not as easy as it sounds. Although they say, "don;t worry, you're the leader, let your member take in charge of each performance. And yes, I have delegated everyone with their own performance. It seems like everyone is as clueless as I am. "what should I do?" "Should I train them...but I don't know?" and many more excuses that can put a full stop to everything .

To be honest, so far I've only trained the choral speaking, which I enjoyed the most especially working with the 2krk students. They are the most co-operative students I've ever met in my whole life. Then, I've done with being the critique for the dance performance(so far 85% satisfying, cerik dirik pengkritik A.F lah?). The other performances are story telling and public speaking which I should worry later. Now, this last performance is something that send chill to my bones. Choir! yes, you heard it first! Choir! To be frank, I'm no Mr. Schue (Glee!) and I ain't no Sue Sylvester neither. This is something that I hate most especially when you know that there's not enough supply of talents in the vocal departments. I'm equally as untalented as these kids.Wait the minute, that would be wrong and an understatement to underestimate your students' ability. But hey, this is no Academy Fantasia. Not that I'm saying they have ugly voice. But as a normal human being with some dignity, I will not make a promise to put up a show that is merely 'suam-suam kuku' or in other word, average (so-so) Yet, I can't complain and feel anxious about this. What if they make fun of themselves? and then it'll definitely ruin my reputation. So what I'm gonna do? I'll pray to GOD harder.

Like I said earlier, maybe I've enrolled in the wrong course during my University years. Maybe I should have taken performing arts (acting, singing, dancing, music, instrumentals etc) Maybe I'm not good enough in all of that, but surely I got a pinch of those things in my blood. Somehow, I do enjoy managing a performance( not performing though). I love the adrenaline rush and the satisfaction after putting a show, or getting whatever feedback of the performance.Somehow, it helps me to learn and to improve in the future. Now, this sounds very promising as I myself don't even know what that future holds. As long as the audience enjoy the show, the whole effort is paid off.

So into these final few days, I hope I get enough sleep and energy to perfect all those performances and give a kickass! performance. =) wish me luck!
